How is Max different from HBO Max?

Max combines the worlds of HBO and the DC Universe, plus hit movies, original series and fan-favorite genres like novelas, true crime, reality, food, and comedy.

Max includes:

  • All of HBO Max: HBO series and movies, Max Originals, and select series and movies from Warner Bros., the DC Universe, Cartoon Network, Looney Tunes, Adult Swim, and more.
  • Iconic brands and beloved franchises: The best real-life shows from your favorite TV brands: Home & Health, ID, Discovery, Discovery Kids, and more.

Max has something for everyone—fan-favorite series like Friends and The Big Bang Theory, the HBO Original series Game of Thrones and The Last of Us, and iconic real-life formats like 90 Day Fiancé, Naked & Afraid, and Fixer Upper.

As well as plenty of hit movies, indie favorites, and critically-acclaimed documentaries.

Here are some of the changes we made:

  • Smarter and personalized recommendations
  • Improved performance
  • Easier to sign in and use
  • Profile PIN for Adult profiles
  • New Hubs and genres
How do I get Max?
Former HBO Max subscribers

If you subscribed to HBO Max in the past:

HBO subscribers

If you get HBO with your cable or satellite TV package, you may have access to Max at no extra cost. To find out if your TV provider supports Max, go to max.com/provider and search for your provider.

New subscribers

New subscribers can sign up through one of our partners or at max.com. For more info, go to How do I subscribe to Max?

Already have an HBO Max account? Sign in to Max with your HBO Max email and password and then choose Renew subscription. For more info, go to Resubscribe to Max.

Do my HBO Max profiles and settings transfer?

Your HBO Max profiles, watch history, and your settings (including parental controls) are available in Max.

There are two things that don't transfer to Max:

  • HBO Max downloads: You'll need to download your shows and movies again with Max.
  • Custom profile pictures: If you had a custom profile picture in HBO Max, you'll see a generic profile icon in Max (Max doesn't support custom profile photos). If you'd like to choose a different profile avatar, go to Add and manage Max profiles.

You can add a Profile PIN to any Adult profile to keep other people in your household from using your profile (e.g., prevent your kids from accessing your profile). For more info, go to Add a Profile PIN.

Each of your profiles has a My Stuff area with your Continue Watching list and My List.

Are there any price changes?

If you subscribed to HBO Max through us or an app store, there won't be any immediate changes to your subscription price.

If you have the HBO Max 50% off launch offer billed through us, you'll keep this promotion for as long as you comply with the terms and conditions of the promotion.

If you subscribe through an internet, mobile, or TV provider, your provider will let you know of any price or plan changes.

Are there any plan changes?

If you're a current HBO Max subscriber, here's how your HBO Max plan changed:

  • Standard plan: No changes. You keep your existing HBO Max plan features for a limited period of time after Max launches.
  • Mobile plan: Your HBO Max Mobile plan changed to the Max Standard plan and your price will remain the same for a limited period of time after Max launches. With the Standard plan you can stream in Full HD on 2 devices at once and have up to 30 offline downloads.

Additionally, there are 2 new Max plans:

  • Basic with Ads:
    • Stream on 2 devices at the same time

    • Watch with limited ads
  • Platinum:

    • Up to 100 offline downloads

Full HD, 4K Ultra UHD, and Dolby Atmos are not available for all content within each plan. Live content in Standard and Platinum plans may contain ads. Downloads may include restrictions in some content categories.

Max prices vary by provider and plan. For more info about pricing, go to max.com.
